ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores how the female body is shaped by external forces—particularly language, judgment, and cultural expectation. I am interested in how identity is not only lived, but also constructed through the narratives imposed upon it.

Working primarily with the torso, I use fragmentation, containment, and structural framing to examine how the body becomes an object of scrutiny and control. Materials play a central role: fragile, permeable surfaces are often held in tension with rigid frameworks, reflecting the instability between lived experience and imposed definition.

Recent work extends this investigation toward the cultural invisibility of older women. If earlier pieces examine how the body is disciplined into form, this emerging direction considers how it is gradually erased from view. Across the work, I ask how identity is shaped, constrained, and ultimately redefined through the forces that act upon the body
